Pre-Primed products
Pergolas
Pergolas can take the edge off the weather to make
your outdoor living enjoyable all year round. They provide
shade, privacy and protection from the rain. Pergolas
can be attached to your house to expand your living
area or freestanding for a natural looking carport.
Ironwood® Primed H3
laminated posts are ideal for above ground pergola
construction. Being pre-primed, these posts are easy
to paint and have an attractive smooth face. They are
also great for verandah posts.
Pergola Roofing
There are several different types of roofing suitable
for pergolas.
- Colourbond steel roofing will provide total sun
and rain protection.
- If you prefer to let more light in, polycarbonate
sheeting can be used.
- Using the same roof tiles on you pergola as your
home is a great way to blend the two structures.
- For a more natural look timber battens can be used
with vines trained to grow along them. Ironwood®
Rougher Headed is perfect in this application.
Decking - Building and Maintenance
Decks are perfect for outdoor entertaining and also
add value to homes by creating an extra living area.
Approximately 6% of Australian homes have a deck* and
those who don't have one - want one. So how do
you ensure the quality and longevity of such a critical
structure? Here is some information that can help save
lives while also creating a structure that will last
a lifetime. Read more.

Decking - Which Side Up?
Ironwood® decking comes with one smooth side and
one reeded side. We recommend the smooth side up as
the reeded side has been designed to aid water run off
when placed side down. Having the smooth side up also
makes your deck easier to clean, prolonging the life
of your deck.
Handrails
If your deck or pergola is more than one metre off
the ground or if you have children or pets you will
need to consider a handrail. Ironwood® handrails
are stylish and functional and can be cut to length
to fit your project.
Balusters
Laser cut Ironwood® balusters can also be used
in your handrail for a more decorative feature. Designs
available are Poinsettias, Tulip, Heart and Gumnut to
name a few. This style can be continued with other Ironwood®
federation pieces such as post tops, verandah brackets,
posts and gable spires.
Finishing your Deck & Pergola
We recommend that you paint or stain your deck, this
will help to prolong its life. Decks can also be saturated
with clear or tinted decking oils, providing protection
against the weather while blending perfectly into your
environment - such as a natural bush setting.
As with all timber constructions, the sticks of timber
should be given the first coat of finish before construction,
as some areas are out of reach once in place.
