Lyptus® - Plantation Hardwood Timber
Practical, eco-friendly, beautiful
Lyptus is the environmentally responsible solution for:
- Beautiful furniture and cabinetry,
- Commercial and shop fit-outs,
- Architectural millwork (such as internal staircases, mouldings and decorative wall panels).
Practical
Lyptus
is manufactured to specific market requirements using state-of-the-art sawmilling technology.
The grading of Lyptus, unlike that of locally grown native hardwood species in Australia, does not allow gum veins. In addition world-class drying techniques ensure that there is no internal checking. The timber is air dried for 6 to 9 months and after kiln drying and machining is specially wrapped to maintain moisture content at 6 to 8%, this ensures that Lyptus is a stable and consistent timber to work with.
Chris Lyon, from Lyon Furniture at Currumbin in Queensland received some
of the first Lyptus shipment, "You can really tell that its plantation grown, the
product is so consistent; there is just no gum-vein and none of the insect damage that
is evident with forest grown natives. The product also machines to a beautiful finish."
Peter Adams from Forrest Timber Products near Colac in Victoria, has also
been impressed with Lyptus, "The timber stays really straight - it must be very well dried.
The product machined really well, not abrasive at all and there is no more variation than from
Rose gum or Sydney blue gum. Overall, it's a really good timber."
Lyptus is receptive to all common types of finishing including both water
and solvent based lacquers, various types of pigments, oils and waxes.
Lyptus is currently available in:
- Sawn boards in 25mm, 32mm, 38mm and 50mm thicknesses with others to follow
- FAS (First and Second) and Select grades with No. 1 Common grade to follow
- Lengths range from 2.4m to 4.8m, supplied in set length random width packs
- Durability class 3, so, unless treated, for internal use only
Eco-friendly
The Lyptus
plantations have played an important role in reforesting the devastated native rainforests of
Brazil.
Not only are Lyptus plantations utilising land that had become useless by years of intensive
farming and logging, but for every two hectares of Lyptus plantation planted, one hectare
of new native forest is planted, protected and maintained.
The fact that native flora and fauna are thriving within the Lyptus plantations
and the surrounding native reafforestation, demonstrates that these forestlands are providing
optimum conditions for preserving and increasing biodiversity.
Beautiful
The
colour of Lyptus varies from pink to pale red-brown with dark pink variations
and an even grain and texture. The appearance is similar to old growth rainforest species such
as Mahogany and Jatoba.
Though the colour of Lyptus is naturally beautiful, it can be stained to suit the interior
colour scheme of any project.
